cabin refurbishment appeal

Over the course of three decades the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Activities Centre has provided thousands of holidays for children and adults with special needs.  We offer residential accommodation for holidays and courses in the form of family size timber cabins.  These were built twenty years ago and, at that time, represented a great leap forward from the dormitory accommodation we previously had.

We have recently completed a large scale upgrade of our main building; which has significantly improved the way that we are able to operate and improved people's enjoyment of visits to the Centre.  Now we want to do the same to the cabins.  With six cabins to refurbish - each the size of a family home -  the costs soon mount up, so we have set a target of £100,000 to raise over the coming months.  This will see big improvements in access and facilities, and make holidays at the Queen Elizabeth II Activities Centre an even better experience.  Part of that total will be used to replace the roof on the Centre's sports hall.

We've already made a start - we identified refitting the bathrooms as the most important  task to carry out - and we've done it!  The walkway in front of the old log cabin has been replaced.  We're also replacing beds, futons and mattresses to make sure you get a good nights sleep.  Next step is the kitchens, starting with the log cabin - thanks to a donation from the CLA Charitable Trust - and then on to the A frames - thanks to a donation from the Garfield Weston Foundation.

Celebrate the Centre's 30th Anniversary year by making a donation to the Cabin Refurbishment Appeal.

Here's what we want to do:

improve access to cabins 1 and 2,

improve rear access to cabin 5,

replace verandas on the A frame cabins and replace decking around the log cabin,

maintain the timber and roofs of all the cabins,

replace window fittings and locks,

refit kitchens,

improve storage,

replace curtains and carpets, light fittings, tables and chairs, beds, mattresses and futons,

and replace the roof on the sports hall.

You can help by making a donation, organising a fundraising event or supporting events put on by the Centre.  Watch the "what's new" page for information about events like the Concorde Club Jazz evening on October 22nd.
