A big cheer for the Green Team who have made it through the first year at the GreenHouse day service! The allotment has come on leaps and bounds since October 2010. It has been transformed from a barren stretch of ground to a purposeful and colourful allotment.
Raised beds have been built, paths dug out and laid, workbenches made from reclaimed timber and plenty of mulching, digging and planting too! Well done to those who recycled their plastic bottles to make a cold frame - what a difference it made.
Everyone has worked as a team to create a space that not only grows fruit and veggies but is a place to enjoy. Hanging baskets and troughs have been filled to create a welcoming feature that not only brightens up a blank wall but also attracts insects to pollinate our plants.
We’ve been busy all year round-using wood and materials collected from coppicing and doing some woodland activities too. Everyone is thrilled to have a greenhouse and this will make a big difference to the variety and quantity of fruit and vegetables being grown in the allotment.
The groups have created habitats and maintained the QE2 grounds to promote wildlife and there is so much more to do!
