new compound for QE2 activity centre
thanks to the generosity of the Percy Bilton Charitable Trust, and the 2006/2007 Eastleigh Mayoral Appeal, we have a brand new canoe compound down by the river. The previous timber-built compound was over twenty years old and was suffering from the ravages of time. We have periodically had problems with break-ins to the compound, with boats going missing - usually later found drifting on the river. The new compound should prevent that from happening in the future.
So once again, thanks to the Percy Bilton Trust and 2006 Eastleigh Mayor Cllr Peter Wall, for the funding. Thanks also to Hampshire County Council and Manor Farm Country Park for allowing us the use of the site. Thanks to B&Q staff for taking the old compound down and to SW Marchants of Titchfield, who erected the new compound.

English Rugby Stars - the next generation
The Queen Elizabeth II Activity Centre exists to give opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. Every now and again we make our facilities available for non-special needs groups, as we did recently for Banbury Under 10s Rugby Club, who were taking part in a tournament locally. And what a successful weekend they had! Well done lads!
BANBURY RUGBY CLUB UNDER 10s TRAVEL TO HAMPSHIRE AND DENY LOCAL FAVOURITES
The super-successful Banbury RUFC Under 10 team won Sunday’s Trojans Minis Tournament without conceding a single try
With appallingly wet and squally weather creating treacherous conditions underfoot, Banbury’s U10’s tested themselves against 10 of Hampshire’s finest sides and were not found wanting. Bagging a colossal haul of 125 points in 6 games - including 25 in the final against local favourites Havant – the Banbury side didn’t concede a single try on their way to lifting the trophy.

Visit from Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Families & Schools
Surrey Heath MP, Michael Gove, Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Families & Schools visited this week, accompanied by Maria Hutchings, the prospective Conservative candidate for Eastleigh.
Michael met visitors with learning disabilities from a Dorset day centre, who were taking part in a canoeing session. He also filmed an interview with the BBC, so look out for the Centre on the TV! Following a tour of the Centre Michael commented that he hugely admired the work that we do here.
As the mother of a son with autism Maria was particularly interested in the opportunities offered by the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Activities Centre. Maria first came to people's attention when she questioned Tony Blair about the closure of special schools, believing that a variety of provision is the most appropriate way to meet the different needs, abilities. expectations and aspirations of disabled pupils.
